PUR Features

Polyurethane SIP home in PennsylvaniaPolyurethane SIPs

Murus Polyurethane (PUR) Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are composed of a rigid Polyurethane foam core formed between two sheets of structurally rated OSB (Oriented Strand Board). The resultant panel provides structural strength that is equal or superior to conventional 2x stud construction of a comparable thickness. The Polyurethane foam core provides a solid, uninterrupted, highly energy efficient insulation. Once the SIP seams are sealed with spray foam and cam-locked tightly together, Murus SIPs provide a uniform continuity of structure, insulation and interior and exterior substrate, all in one building component.

Patented Cam-Lock Connector System

Murus' patented, high impact plastic Cam-Lock joining system saves considerably on installation time as compared to other SIP systems, and can offer even greater time savings over conventional stud wall construction. Cam-Locks aid in achieving a uniform positive seal between panels, helping to eliminate possible moisture and air infiltration. Cam-Locks are located at two foot intervals along the vertical edge of the panel, and in conjunction with the tongue and groove profile of the foam core, create an exceptionally strong, superior building envelope.

Tongue and Groove Edge Profile

Polyurethane SIPs with cam lock connectorsA tongue and groove edge profile is molded into every Murus Polyurethane SIP, assuring quick, proper alignment of panel-to-panel joints. Once installed and sealed with spray foam, the tongue and groove connection provides a continuous uniformity of insulation that is lacking in spline connection SIP systems.

Superior Structural Strength

Murus Polyurethane SIPs provide a continuous whole-wall system that is superior in structural strength to conventional construction methods.

Electrical Chase

A standard horizontal electrical chase is embedded in the foam core of the Murus Polyurethane SIP during manufacturing, with several available chase height options.

Optional Factory Pre-cutting

Murus offers state-of-the-art precision factory CNC pre-cutting services. We pre-cut window and door openings, adjust the overall panel lengths, and rout the panel foam cores to accommodate inlet plates and nailers. The panels are then labeled to correspond with pre-cut drawings (included) for assembly and installation on site. This service can save time and labor, and will cut on-site waste volume and waste disposal expense.

PUR Benefits

Superior Insulating Value for Energy Savings

Murus SIPs provide exceptional R-values per inch of thickness over conventional enclosure systems and virtually eliminate energy-robbing air infiltration. Murus SIPs can save significantly on heating and cooling energy consumption over conventional stud construction. And, because Murus SIPs are so highly energy efficient, smaller-sized heating and cooling equipment may be installed for further savings.

Green Building Qualified

Because of their ability to significantly reduce heating and cooling loads, Murus PUR SIPs reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, saving our limited petroleum resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Murus PUR SIPs are ENERGY STAR qualfied, and are ideal for Green building projects. Because they are ENERGY STAR qualified, Murus PUR SIPs will contribute to points earned in LEED and NAHB's Model Green Home Guidelines programs. Murus PUR SIPs are recognized by and listed in the Greenspec Directory, an independent agency specializing in qualifying Green construction products.

Upscale SIP home in North CarolinaTotal Living Comfort

Air infiltration creates drafts and air stratification (cold floors and hot ceilings). These conditions rob energy and create an uncomfortable living environment. Because of their solid core construction, Murus SIPs virtually eliminate air infiltration and stratification. A home enclosed with Murus SIPS will be three to five times tighter than typical enclosure systems, and will have a uniformly balanced, delightfully comfortable interior living environment.

Job-Specific Manufacturing

Murus realizes that every home is unique, so we manufacture every panel to specifications as provided in the project's architectural drawings.

Fast Installation

The composite construction of Murus SIPs ensures fast shell-in times.

Mortgage Loan Advantage

Several banks and mortgage loan institutions have realized the positive contribution SIPs bring to a new home project, and have developed tailored mortgage loan programs just for system-built projects.

Utility Rebates

Building with Murus SIPS may qualify your home for a rebate on your utilities. Contact your local utility company for information.

Fire Resistance

The foam used in Murus SIPS holds a Class 1 Fire Resistance rating - the highest rating available for combustible materials. Because the core of a Murus SIP is solid, there is no air cavity in a SIP wall or roof to permit a "chimney effect".  A chimney effect promotes and hastens fire spread, and is inherent with open cavity enclosure systems such as stick framing.
